Button Down the Hatches!
It’s Friday and Hurricane Irene is making her way up toward my neck of the woods (we just said farewell to an unexpected earthquake earlier this week.) She’ll be here tomorrow night. I hope to have the place nice and tidy with some tea ready for her arrival.  In the meantime, I plan on distracting myself with, among other things, the new fabric I received today from Drygoods Designs...

Toothy the Tooth Fairy
I thought I’d share with you a stuffed toy (or in trendy vernacular, ‘plushie’) idea that I had for Spoonflower’s latest contest, which opens for voting tomorrow. I’ve realized that for practicality’s sake, I really like things with multiple functions. Or even one practical function for that matter. I say this only because otherwise I’d surely be...

Today's Free Swatch Day!
Woo, woo! Sound the alarms! Today is Spoonflower.com’s Free Swatch Day. Beginning at noon EST, you can feed your fabric-hoarding addiction by ordering whatever design you want on whatever fabric you want. Or, if you’ve never dipped your toe in the Spoonflower pool before, you can give it a risk-free whirl for the next 24 hours. You’ll love it, I promise! :D

Once Stomped and Now Stylish
I hate it when I break things. It doesn’t happen a lot, but when it does, a scribble cloud appears over my head soon after. Here I was foolishly deciding to move a chair from one room to another without clearing a path for myself first. “Oh, I’ll just step over things”, I thought. “I have an iron clad photographic memory, so I’ll know exactly where to place each...

Zoooooom Went the Week
Super quick post to confirm that I have not, in fact, fallen into a hole, but rather have been so busy that this week has flown by without a second to spare. Coming off the heels of last weekend’s big bash of beach and birthday busyness (including a grand reunion of great friends and a homemade orange triceratops cake with buttercream frosting), I spent a couple of days getting everything...

Voting Open: Shark Week!
Although the contest is only freshly underway (quick, hurry and vote, they’re starting to circle!), I wanted to share my entry for this week’s Spoonflower fabric contest: SHARKS! I came up with not necessarily the most riveting concept (although I find it wokka wokka elbow-nudgingly funny: hammerheads of varying types with rusty nails as tiny fish prey…) but I’m most...

Spoonflower: Coffee Top Ten Finalist
Woohoo! This marks my fifth week in a row of placing in the top ten for Spoonflower contests. Hello, lucky streak. Revealed today, my ‘Mornin’ Sunshine’ coffee-themed design came in 7th place out of the 255 entries. Not too shabby! I was inspired by retro Scandinavian coffee mugs and makers, especially Catherineholm coffee pots. Their vintage mod pattern is so simple and...

Textiles: A Puppet Party in the Park
If the stars align and a certain toddler isn’t too punchy from not having a nap, we’re planning on seeing some Shakespeare in the park tonight. ‘Much Ado About Nothing’…which really is about exactly what’s going on at the moment with all the overtired kidlet drama in the house. But I digress.  It got me to thinking about theatre performances, kids and...

Textiles: Finished Projects
Thought I’d share with you a couple of lovely purses made by two different Etsy designers, both using my ‘Love Fiesta’ fabric. This sweet clutch purse is one of Jennifer Ladd’s beautiful creations. I love all of her work and she always lines her bags with the cutest coordinating fabrics! This great handbag with fun bamboo handles is by Terra Maya Romantico. I can...

Random Craftiness: A Quarter Per Vote
So here’s something more random… AMC Bowling Centers are hosting their first-ever Pin Decorating Contest. And as I’m a giant sucker for art contests, we OF COURSE had to get into the act and enter. My son created a couple of designs and entered the one you see above to the 6 years old and younger category. Voting is now open and the best part is that just by adding your vote,...

Random Craftiness: Kids Capes
My eldest son’s 3rd birthday is quickly approaching. I decided that he and his friends would all receive personalized capes as birthday goody takeaways. Tall order? Of course, that’s how I roll, I suppose. Although, literally, not so tall. Short, actually. Like toddler short. Although I do want these to grow with them as they sprout and play, so they’re sized a bit bigger. I was lucky that...
